Vietnam remains active contributor to success of CAEXPO and CABIS
VOV.VN - Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc led the Vietnamese delegation to the opening ceremony of the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning on September 17.
This year's expo focuses on FTA development and high-quality economic growth, and drew over 2,200 Chinese enterprises and nearly 1,000 ASEAN businesses, featuring roughly 50 economic and trade activities, including supply chain connectivity, investment promotion, and business dialogues.
Delivering the opening remarks, Ding Xuexiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese Vice Premier, stated that the Chinese government attaches great importance to building the ACFTA.
Since its establishment, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has developed steadily with prominent achievements.
China has remained ASEAN's largest trading partner for consecutive years, while ASEAN has also continuously maintained its position as China's largest trading partner. He emphasized that looking back, both sides have reaped substantial achievements; looking forward, they must continue advancing hand in hand. Once the upgraded ACFTA Version 3.0 agreement enters into force and is implemented, it will join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to inject fresh momentum into regional economic development.
To build a higher-level ACFTA, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang put forward four proposals: comprehensively raising the level of regional openness, promoting more substantive economic and trade cooperation, expanding cooperation in emerging fields, and making connectivity more convenient while enabling business operations to run more efficiently.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc noted that over the past four decades, ASEAN-China relations have proven to be one of the most successful and stable cooperation models, with China continuing to be a leading foreign direct investment (FDI) source in many ASEAN member states.
Within the broader framework of ASEAN-China relations, bilateral trade and investment between Vietnam and China serve as a powerful growth driver, playing a vital role in connecting markets and production chains.
Substantive cooperation across various fields has yielded positive progress. During the eight- month of 2026, bilateral trade turnover reached US$216.1 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of over 35.2%.
With more than 7,000 projects and nearly US$37 billion in registered capital, Chinese investment in Vietnam ranks 6th out of 153 countries and territories investing in the country. Vietnam desires to continue making greater contributions to expanding the scope of ASEAN-China cooperation for shared prosperity.
Deputy PM Pham Gia Tuc emphasized that over its 23 editions, CAEXPO and CABIS have traversed a remarkable journey: evolving from a trade promotion fair into a vital cooperative platform connecting markets, investments, technologies, and businesses between ASEAN and China. Placing ACFTA alongside artificial intelligence (AI), the digital economy, the green economy, logistics, and supply chains at the core of this year's expo demonstrates a paradigm shift in China-ASEAN cooperation: transitioning from market connectivity to development capacity connectivity, and from traditional commodity exchange to digital commerce promotion and high-tech investment.
He affirmed that Vietnam consistently values, supports, and takes pride in being an active contributor to the collective success of CAEXPO and CABIS. At this year's expo, Vietnam is represented by 120 enterprises displaying over 200 booths with a diverse range of products. This is seen as as vivid testimony to the country’s determination and aspiration to make greater contributions to fostering a peaceful, stable, and cooperative environment for shared development between ASEAN and China.
On this occasion, Tuc outlined four cooperation proposals: First, bringing ACFTA 3.0 into genuine practice by simplifying procedures, facilitating trade and investment, and further expanding mutual market access. Second, promoting balanced and sustainable ASEAN-China trade and investment, while strengthening ties between business communities of both sides in green agriculture, clean energy, and emerging sectors. Third, accelerating digital connectivity and innovation by jointly unlocking potential and effectively utilizing AI, cross-border e-commerce, digital infrastructure, and smart logistics to build a secure, inclusive, and innovative regional digital ecosystem. Fourth, enhancing ASEAN-China infrastructure connectivity spanning road, rail, maritime, and aviation networks, especially cross-border transport linkages, logistics, and economic corridors, to push up stable, high-efficiency regional supply chains.
Expressing confidence in the event, he stated his belief that this significant gathering will continue to unlock fresh cooperative opportunities for businesses and citizens on both sides.
As a premier trade exhibition in China, CAEXPO has been held annually in Nanning since 2004. Over its 23 editions, CAEXPO and CABIS have played an essential role in connecting investments, driving economic cooperation, and reinforcing the ASEAN-China strategic partnership, establishing themselves as among the region's most prominent events drawing extensive corporate participation. Government leaders of Vietnam have attended every single edition of CAEXPO.
Through CAEXPO, Vietnam-China economic cooperation is gradually expanding from trade into higher-value-added sectors, while reinforcing supply chain, production chain, and investment connectivity. This strategic direction is expected to generate fresh momentum for bilateral economic and trade relations in the coming period.
