Vietnam reiterates commitment to RCEP and regional integration at 5th Summit

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to RCEP and regional integration at the 5th Summit, highlighting cooperation and sustainable development among member economies.

On October 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit alongside leaders from ASEAN and partner countries-Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), and China, hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, chair of ASEAN 2025.

This marked the first RCEP Summit since the agreement was signed in November 2020 (during Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship) and fully entered into force on June 2, 2023. The meeting provided a platform for leaders to exchange views on the global economic landscape, regional cooperation under RCEP, discuss strategic directions for the next phase, accelerate the effective implementation of the agreement, advance accession of new members, and prepare for a comprehensive RCEP review in 2027.

Speaking at the summit, PM Pham Minh Chinh hailed the efforts of Malaysia as ASEAN Chair 2025 and other member states in organizing this important summit. He highlighted that the meeting demonstrated RCEP members’ strong commitment to deeper, substantive regional integration, thus enabling economies to respond effectively to emerging challenges.

He also emphasized RCEP’s role in driving Asia-Pacific economic development and the clear benefits it brings in trade, investment, and regional supply chains, while providing a foundation for member states to achieve sustainable growth and strengthen competitiveness.

He affirmed Vietnam’s support for and commitment to fully implementing all RCEP obligations, while actively cooperating with members to expand and enhance the quality of regional cooperation under the framework. Vietnam regards RCEP as a “bridge” enabling economies at different stages of development to share benefits, spur self-driven growth, and pursue common prosperity.

The Vietnamese Government chief stressed that Vietnam consistently supports the multilateral trading system, views the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a pillar of a fair, transparent, and mutually beneficial trade order, and is ready to participate in WTO reform efforts.

The summit concluded successfully with the adoption of leaders’ joint statement on RCEP, reaffirming support for ASEAN’s centrality and the commitment to open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial regional economic integration. The statement also reiterated the members’ strong commitment to the multilateral trading system, with the WTO as its foundation, emphasizing openness, transparency, fairness, and rule-based predictability without discrimination among trading partners.

It further affirmed RCEP’s central role in promoting regional economic integration, strengthening resilience, and supporting sustainable growth, particularly in the context of ongoing global economic and trade uncertainties.
