Minister Minh affirmed this at a working session with Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations on September 26 on the sidelines of the 66th UN General Assembly.
The FM also briefed Ban Ki-moon on Vietnam’s socioeconomic development plan for the next five years and expressed his hope that UN will assist the country implement the plan.
The UN Secretary General highlighted Vietnam’s efforts to implement the “One UN Initiative” on improving the effectiveness of cooperation and development.
He said Vietnam has joined efforts with ASEAN and related nations to implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.
Ban Ki-moon expressed hope that Vietnam will play a more active role at regional and international forums, including an UN conference on sustainable development in 2012.
** On the same day, FM Minh met with his counterparts from Canada, the US, Russia, and Slovenia and the General Directors of the UN Development Programme and UN Population Fund.
