The first issue of the Vietnam Human Rights Magazine came out on July 14, with a focus on the Party’s standpoints and guidelines and the State’s policies and laws on human rights.

The aim of the magazine is to cover the country’s human rights record and provide a forum for discussion on human rights issues. It also helps inform people about the plots of hostile forces who use democracy and human rights issues to sabotage national construction and development.

State President Nguyen Minh Triet has sent a letter of congratulation to the magazine’s staff.

Speaking at a ceremony to welcome the magazine’s first issue, Pham Gia Khiem, Politburo member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Government Steering Committee on Human Rights, affirmed that the Party and State see human rights as a key to the country’s sustainable development.

During the past years, under the leadership of the Party, the Vietnamese people have managed to protect the homeland and have gained great achievements in the country’s renovation process, said the Deputy PM, adding that these are basic foundations for Vietnam to enforce human rights.

Mr Khiem emphasised that in addition to better protect human rights the Vietnamese people must strengthen their unity in the fight against the hostile forces’ attempts to distort and hinder the country’s development.

“The publication of the magazine is necessary as it is another main channel to disseminate the Party’s standpoints and guidelines as well as the State’s policies and laws on human rights,” he said.
