Vietnam is willing to share its experiences in poverty reduction with Asian, African and Latin American countries, said former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh.

Mrs Binh, who is also Vice Chair of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organisation (AAPSO), made the statement at a national congress of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity and Cooperation with Asia, Africa and Latin America in Hanoi on July 11.

She said Vietnam also wants to learn about economic development experiences from developed countries in the regions.

During the congress, the fifth of its kind, participants discussed measures to accelerate solidarity and cooperation with people in the three regions. They said the committee should coordinate with organisations in the regions to promote mutual understanding and cooperation in culture, economics and science.

Delegates elected the 12-member Presidium for the 2008-2013 tenure, led by Pham Van Chuong, former director of the Party Central Committee’s Commission of External Relations.

The Vietnam Committee for Solidarity and Cooperation with Asia, Africa and Latin America, formerly known as the Committee for Solidarity with Asia, was set up in October 19, 1956. It has actively participated in the AAPSO activities and made contributions to fostering solidarity with people in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
