- Vietnam praises Cambodia’s human rights achievements
Ambassador Dung, who is Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations in Geneva, made the statement at the UN Human Rights Council’s 12th session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review on October 5.
Dung said that thanks to enforcing laws and carrying out development policies based on human rights, Thailand has gained great achievements in socio-economics, protection and development of fundamental human rights and freedom, especially in poverty reduction, educational and healthcare development, and gender equality.
Vietnam welcomes Thailand’s commitments to international human rights organizations as well as its proactive cooperation with UN human rights institutions, said the diplomat.
The Vietnamese ambassador expressed his belief that with the success of the recent election, a new era of stability and development will be opened up to the country.
He recommended that Thailand base its society on the harmony of different social sectors, democratic principles and the law, in order to create favourable foundations for socio-political stability and economic development.
The country should also promote the implementation of law and policies to protect vulnerable groups such as women, children, people in poverty, ethnic minorities, and immigrants, as well as those related to human rights as mentioned in its 2009-2013 national plan on human rights, he said.
