Vietnam, Poland boost defence links

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Pham Hoai Nam hosted a reception for Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Wojciech Gerwel on January 17.

During the function, Nam affirmed that Vietnam always bears in mind valuable support from Poland during the national struggle for dependence in the past as well as current national construction and defence.

He also appreciated timely support given by the Polish government to Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight, while highlighting the assistance as a manifestation of sentiments of the two Governments and peoples.

In response, Ambassador Gerwel said his nation aspired to step up closer cooperation with Vietnam across a variety of fields, including national defence and security.

Both sides expressed their delight to see bilateral defence cooperation enhanced over the recent past, especially following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence cooperation in 2010, primarily in exchange of delegations, human resource development and defence industry.

They consented to ramp up defence cooperation in the time ahead in a flexible manner in line with the COVID-19 situation, with a particular focus on maintaining delegation exchange, including high-ranking delegations.

The two sides also agreed to accelerate discussion on the adoption of the Vietnam-Poland defence cooperation plan for this year as swift as possible.
