Vietnam will fully participate in comprehensive cooperation among the Association of National Police Forces in the ASEAN region (ASEANAPOL) as well as between them and the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).

The statement was made by State President Nguyen Minh Triet while receiving ASEAN police chiefs who were attending the 29th ASEANAPOL conference in Hanoi on May 13.

He said that Vietnam wishes, along with other ASEAN countries and their partners, including Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand, to build a peaceful, stable and developed region.

The State leader emphasised the great importance of the ASEANAPOL Conference, which has taken place in a context of increasing crimes, especially transnational hi-tech and drug-related crimes, terrorism and piracy.

Countries in the region and around the world must strengthen cooperation in order to achieve more effective results in crime prevention, he added.

President Triet also highly valued the close coordination between ASEANAPOL and their partners over the past few years, helping to push back crime and bring practical benefits to regional countries.
