German ambassador to Vietnam Christian Ludwig Weber-Lortsch has emphasised Vietnam’s important role in ASEAN bloc, saying that the European Union (EU) will co-ordinate with the country to develop overall plans for development of EU-ASEAN relations.

The German ambassador was speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on January 18 to announce the action plan of the Federal Republic of Germany when assuming its role as EU president.


The press conference was co-chaired by the German ambassador and the Head of the European Commission Delegation, Markus Cornaro.


The German diplomat said top priority is given to the continuation of the EU constitutional process, vitality of European socio-economic models, free trade area, justice and enlargement of the security and stability of Europe. 


Priority is also given to protecting the environment and climates, ensuring stable source of energy supply, and fighting terrorism and trans-national crime.


Regarding the Vietnam-EU Joint Agreement, Mr Cornaro expressed his wish to cooperate with Germany to boost the implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement as well as the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement. He said the EU will strive to put forward a detailed plan on the 50th anniversary of its establishment in the near future.
