The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) held a meeting in Hanoi on July 11 to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the Philippines (July 12).

At the meeting, VUFO President Vu Xuan Hong and the Philippine ambassador to Vietnam Jerril G.Santos reviewed the friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Philippines since their establishment of diplomatic ties. Leaders of both countries have made regular visits to discuss orientations and measures to fully tap potential of the two countries and expand cooperation in all fields.

Hong said that economic and trade ties between Vietnam and the Philippines have gained remarkable achievements. Two-way trade turnover has increased sharply, exceeding the set target of US$2 billion for 2010. Cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, science, technology and education has also achieved positive results. In addition, the friendship between the Vietnamese people and people of the Philippines has been strengthened.

Both sides also expressed their belief that in the future, Vietnam and the Philippines will continue towards major achievements to benefit the people in both countries.
