A ceremony to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22) has been held in Germany by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnam Defence Attaché Office in the country.

The event drew the participation of ambassadors and representatives of ASEAN countries, officials from Germany’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence and nearly 50 defence attachés from countries around the world.

Vietnamese Defence Attaché Colonel Pham Duy Phe reviewed the glorious history of the Vietnam People’s Army during the resistance wars for independence and the current process of national defence and construction.

Over the past 65 years, he said the Vietnam People’s Army has fulfilled tasks assigned by the Party and the Government, ensuring territorial integrity and helping raise the status and position of Vietnam in the region and the world.

He highlighted that the Vietnam-Germany relations have ceaselessly developed over the past years. Germany has granted many scholarships to Vietnamese officers and cadets to study in Germany, said the Attaché referring to the defence ties between the two countries.

A number of political and cultural events will be organised in both countries next year to welcome the 35th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.
