Present at the opening ceremony were Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Le Cong Phung, Vietnamese Consul General Le Dung, Vietnamese staff and students plus representatives from the US Department of State and businesses.
In his speech, Deputy FM Son said the opening of the Consulate General shows that Vietnam-US relations are growing and flourishing and it is essential to open more consular agencies to help further strengthen bilateral relations, especially as the two countries have expanded cooperation in various fields over the past 15 years.
The consulate general opened in Taxas where many overseas Vietnamese are living and will create the best possible conditions for them to visit their homeland, noted Mr Son.
A representative from the US Department of State, Mrs Betty Mc. Cutchon expressed the hope that the newly established consulate general will help boost economic ties between overseas Vietnamese and businesses in Texas.
Micheal Nguyen, an overseas Vietnamese in Texas said that the event will help US companies to tackle economic and trade issues which are very important for both the US and Vietnamese economies.
On the occasion, Vietnamese Consul General introduced Vietnam’s potential and its investment and business environment to major business groups in Texas and called on investors to explore the market and run long-term businesses in Vietnam.
