During his meeting with outgoing Ambassador Kjell Magne Storlokken in Hanoi on August 5, the Government leader reiterated Vietnam’s unwavering policy of boosting bilateral ties with Norway, especially in trade and investment, in the interests of both countries.
“Vietnam is taking the necessary steps to open its embassy in Norway within the year as evidence of the country’s strong determination to boost trade and investment ties with the European country, Dung emphasised.
The two countries recorded US$150 million in bilateral trade while investments from Norway reached US$30 million.
For his part, Storlokken said businesses from Norway are interested in the Vietnamese market, especially in shipping, fisheries and the oil and gas industry, which are Norway’s strengths and also areas where Vietnam has great potential.
He concluded by welcoming Vietnam’s plan to open an embassy in Norway soon, saying that it will not only bring benefits to the two countries but also serve as an effective bridge between the 20,000 strong Vietnamese community in Norway and their compatriots at home.
Also on the day, the Norwegian Ambassador paid a farewell visit to State President Nguyen Minh Triet at the end of his office term in Vietnam.
