Nguyen Nguyet Nga emphasized the three main pillars of Vietnam's foreign policy, in the context of international and regional developments amid complex changes.
Regarding political diplomacy, Nga underlined the need for the diplomatic sector to take full advantage of the new development cycle of the world in order to bring benefits to the nation while emphasizing the importance of economic diplomacy in ensuring the sustainable development the national economy.
Together with the diplomats who serve people, businesses, and society, each person, enterprise, locality, and young generations need to serve as diplomats to popularize Vietnam’s image regionally and internationally.
“Cultural diplomacy means that we bring Vietnam as well as ASEAN to international friends. This task is of vital importance as Vietnam looks to assume the post of ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020,” Nga said.
In his remarks, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said the diplomatic sector’s achievements in all fields over the past 2 years have strengthened public trust and created a strong consensus of approval of the leadership of the Party and State.
He called on the sector to seize every opportunity to prosper despite the world’s complex changes.
“We must not be complacent about the progress so far because we still have lots of things to do. It's necessary to review and draw lessons from what we have done to see whether or not we have missed any opportunities. We should unlock possible bottlenecks in our relationships with major partners and decide whether or not the signed framework documents have created the intended benefits. The 12th National Party Congress’ assessment of the world situation is important, so we must keep a close eye on global changes and cope with perceived risks,” he noted
The Party chief also asked the diplomatic sector to ceaselessly renew the current way of thinking, consistently follow a diplomatic policy of independence and self-reliance, maximize all favorable factors, and improve relations with neighbors and traditional partners.
He underscored the importance of carrying out trade agreements, improving economic diplomacy, stepping up coordination between ministries, sectors, and localities, and most importantly, focusing on strategic forecast.
