On April 2, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his delegation arrived in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Myanmar’s Prime Minister General Thein Sein.

PM Dung’s visit takes place at a moment when friendship between Vietnam and Myanmar is flourishing. Their trade turnover surpassed US$108 million in 2008.

Despite a global recession, their total trade turnover still mange to hit nearly US$100 million last year. Cooperation agreements have been signed for agriculture, seafood, banking, finance, aviation, telecommunications, oil and gas, mining, electrical equipment, automobile assembly, construction, and trade.

A reception for PM Dung and his entourage was held upon their arrival at the headquarters of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).

Following the reception, the two PMs discussed measures to boost cooperation in those fields that have greatest growth potential.

They witnessed the signing of new cooperation agreements in the areas of investment, agriculture, seafood, banking, post and telecommunications and aviation.
