Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and his Lao counterpart Somvasat Lengsavad have agreed to continue drawing up a Vietnam-Laos strategy for cooperation in economics, culture, education, industry, agriculture and forestry.

During a meeting in Hanoi on October 30, the two deputy PMs said priority will be given to developing education and human resources and encouraging Vietnam-Laos joint venture businesses to plant cash crops, including rubber, in Laos.

Mr Hung acknowledged the effective cooperation between the two countries in economics, helping increase their trade value in recent times.

He stressed the need to speed up construction of the Meuangkhua-Tay Trang road section connecting northern Lao provinces with Vietnam’s northwest and Dien Bien provinces, saying that the strategic path has an important role in socio-economic development and security and defence of the two regions.

Deputy PM Somvasat Lengsavad thanked Vietnam for offering assistance to Laos in different fields, especially in preparing infrastructure facilities for the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Laos later this year.
