The first ministerial meeting of public security and home affairs between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia was held in HCM City on April 20.

The delegates reviewed the cooperation over the past year and devised measures to promote future security cooperation in the three countries, especially in border areas and the development triangle area.

In his speech, Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh praised the effective cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, the Cambodian Ministry of Home Affairs and the Lao Ministry of Public Security, which, he said, significantly contributed to maintaining political stability, ensuring social safety and order and enhancing international integration and socio-economic development in the three countries.

The three ministries shared experience and information about crime prevention and control while making coordinated efforts to prevent schemes by hostile forces against the revolution in their countries  as well as those of undermining solidarity by reactionary forces, Mr Anh said.

On the occasion, they signed a joint statement on border security cooperation and agreed to hold such a biennial meeting in rotation in the future.

The next meeting is scheduled for Cambodia in 2013.
