Vietnam is keen to work with Japan to upgrade its infrastructure with funding from Japanese ODA, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a meeting with a delegation from the Japanese Federation of Economic Organisations (Keidanren) led by its Vice Chairman, Uchida, in Hanoi on October 28.

PM Dung praised Keidanren’s prominent role in the Japanese economy and said he believes Keidanren will play an important part in promoting Japanese investment in Vietnam.

Mr Dung said that the relationship between the two countries has been developing strongly, especially in economics and trade. During the forthcoming Japanese Prime Minister’s visit to Vietnam, both leaders will discuss measures to raise bilateral ties to a new level.

PM Dung thanked Japan for providing ODA and praised the results of Japan-Vietnam joint initiatives to improve the investment environment. He reiterated that the Vietnamese Government is willing to work with Japan to develop policies and institutions in order to develop its infrastructure.

Mr Uchida said that Japan considers economic development in Asia as a priority. Therefore, leaders at the East Asian Summit will discuss specific infrastructure development projects. He added that Japanese businesses will supply advanced technologies to Vietnam improve its management capacity and meet environmental standards.

Mr Uchida also asked Vietnam to create the best possible conditions for Japanese businesses to invest in Vietnam, especially in information technology, and nuclear power.
