• President pushes for closer Vietnam-Qatar ties

Mr Trong made the statement at a January 17 reception in Hanoi for the Emir of the State of Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

The Party leader applauded Qatar’s socio-economic achievements and proposed that the two countries should promote bilateral cooperation in the their areas of strength, for the benefit of both sides and positive contributions to peace, cooperation and development in the world.

The Emir expressed his delight with his first visit to Vietnam and thanked the Vietnamese Party and State leaders for their warm welcome. He praised Vietnam’s achievements, its progress in national construction and development, and its status in the region and the world.

The Emir briefed Party leader Trong on the situation in Qatar and the outcome of his talks with senior Vietnamese leaders, saying that his country wants to promote cooperation with Vietnam in a variety of fields, especially economics, trade, investment, labour, education and training.
