A high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation led by Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh attended the 8th unofficial Asia Security Summit, known as the Shangri-la Dialogue, in Singapore from May 29-31.

The dialogue, which drew over 340 delegates from 27 countries and international organisations, discussed the regional and international political and security situation as well as measures to boost defence dialogue and cooperation, helping consolidate peace and stability in the region.

Delivering a speech at the plenary session, the Vietnamese Defence Minister affirmed Vietnam’s policy and efforts in accelerating defence diplomacy, contributing to building a common awareness of a peaceful, stable and developed Asia-Pacific region based on a firm security cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation paid a courtesy visit to the host country’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Teo Chee Hean.

They also had bilateral meetings with other delegations to exchange views on issues of common interest and discuss measures to boost bilateral defence cooperation.
