The Vietnam People's Army and the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force have agreed to intensify bilateral cooperation in rescue and relief activities, as well as in information technology training in the near future.

The agreement was reached at a meeting in Hanoi on March 6 between Lieut. Gen. Pham Hong Loi, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and Gen. Tsutomu Mori, Chief of Staff of the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force.

The same day, General Tsutomu paid a courtesy visit to Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence.

The Japanese general expressed his hope that the visit will contribute to fostering friendly relations between the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force and the Vietnam People's Army.
