Vietnam, Italy mark 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties

(VOV) - A ceremony was held in Rome on January 21 to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Italy.

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh spoke highly of the establishment of strategic partnership during Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to Italy with a view to developing bilateral relations in an effective, comprehensive and sustainable manner.

Foreign Minister Minh said Vietnam considers Italy an important partner in Europe and the world and is always willing to strengthen its relations with the country. Judging from its 40-year experience, he believed the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership will develop in the spirit of equality for mutual benefits.

For his part, Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi emphasized that Vietnam is given a new central place in Italy’s foreign policy when its relations with the Asian region are growing dynamically. The signing of a joint statement on the establishment of the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership has helped both nations improve the quality of cooperation, he said.

The Italian diplomat wished that both countries cooperate effectively in the coming time, starting with an art programme to mark the Vietnam Year in Italy and the opening of an “Italian House” in Vietnam.
