Vietnam, Italy enhance cooperation in high-tech shipbuilding

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Della Seta and leaders from the Fincantieri Group on October 15 in Hanoi to discuss investment cooperation opportunities in high-tech shipbuilding in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha commended the active and comprehensive operations of the Italian Embassy in Vietnam, noting that the country has strong potential for developing its shipbuilding industry, particularly in coastal localities.

Despite various ups and downs, Vietnam is pursuing a strategy to restore and expand its fleet in order to produce modern vessels that meet international standards.

He stressed that Fincantieri’s high-tech shipbuilding products not only align with Vietnam’s market but also cater to global demand. The Vietnamese Government supports high-tech shipbuilding cooperation projects and will provide maximum, efficient, and prompt support for Fincantieri’s initiatives as well as other foreign investors seeking long-term co-operation in developing a green, clean, and sustainable high-tech shipbuilding industry in Vietnam.

Ha also emphasized the importance of local planning, environmental protection, and site selection to ensure that shipbuilding development goes hand in hand with the country’s green tourism orientation, thereby opening long-term cooperation opportunities between Italian and Vietnamese enterprises in high-tech shipbuilding and contributing to sustainable marine economic growth.

Ambassador Marco Della Seta and Fincantieri representatives thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for the meeting and said that the group employs 20,000 people and specializes in shipbuilding, design, and repair. In Vietnam, Fincantieri operates the VARD Vung Tau Shipyard, which designs and builds specialized offshore vessels.

Fincantieri leaders expressed their desire to expand production capacity and apply modern technologies to build vessels serving key sectors such as offshore wind power, ASEAN submarine cable installation, and oil and gas operations.

On this occasion, on behalf of Fincantieri’s leadership, Ambassador Marco Della Seta presented a donation through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee to support localities affected by recent storms and floods.
