"With similarities in culture, economy and commerce, it's time for Vietnam and India to renew their comprehensive cooperation," said Vietnamese Ambassador to India Vu Quang Diem at a ceremony held in Kolkata city, West Bengal state, India, on January 21 to mark the 35th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties.

According to ambassador Diem, the two countries should define new targets and measures to develop bilateral relations to meet the requirements of their people and to serve peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The Chairman of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee, G. Sakmar, said the two countries have emerged as fast-growing economies and attractive destinations for investors.

He said positive changes in the economic field would help boost the trade relations between the two countries and they should be prepared to welcome a brighter future.

The Chairman expressed his hope that the recent announcement by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on India's willingness to engage with ASEAN countries in "Open Sky" policy would bring opportunities for Vietnam and India to intensify tourism and trade cooperation.
