The Vietnamese Party and State always attach importance to the tasks of fighting crime and coordinating with international police forces, said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Party leader was speaking at a reception on November 1 for the delegation of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), headed by President Khoo Boon Hui, who was attending the 80th Interpol General Assembly in Hanoi.

He stressed that as a member of Interpol, Vietnam will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese police force to cooperate closely with the organization to effectively fight transnational crimes.

General Secretary Trong highly appreciated Interpol’s vital role in the fight against transnational crime and expressed his pleasure at the results of cooperation between Interpol and its member countries, including Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Party leader asked Interpol to continue helping Vietnam to raise its capacity for fighting crime in the new situation.

Khoo Boon Hui briefed the host on Interpol operations and the 80th General Assembly of Interpol, being held under the theme, “Connecting police for a safer world - Strong partnerships, innovation and building capacity” to strengthen cooperation in combating and preventing crime, especially hi-tech crime.

Khoo Boon Hui said that the largest-ever meeting, with the participation of 1,200 deputies from 188 countries, has achieved positive results during the first two days.
