The Vietnam National Assembly (NA) hopes to strengthen ties with parliaments of all countries, including Luxembourg and Estonia, says NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

  • At the working session with Grand Duke of Luxembourg Henri in Hanoi on November 7, Mr. Hung affirmed the fine development of Vietnam-Luxembourg relations and emphasized the important role of the Vietnamese legislative body in the country’s construction and development.

    The NA leader expressed gratitude for Luxembourg’s official development assistance and said Vietnam has always welcomed Luxembourg’s businesses.

    For his part, the Grand Duke highlighted Vietnam’s socio-economic development and reiterated his country’s desire to enhance ties with the Southeast Asian nation.

    He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Luxembourg Parliament and the Vietnamese NA, asking the two bodies to further support each other in international forums.

    While receiving Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip the same day, NA Chairman Hung thanked Estonian people for their assistance to Vietnam during its past struggle for national independence and the current cause of national construction and development.

    The Vietnam National Assembly wants to strengthen cooperation with the Estonian Parliament by promoting an exchange of delegations at all levels and the sharing of experiences in legislation, supervision, and hi-tech application to improve the operational efficiency of their bodies, said Mr Hung.

    Mr. Hung also asked Estonia to help Vietnam bolster cooperation with the EU, especially in dealing with the EU filed anti-dumping lawsuit against Vietnam’s leather-capped shoes and supporting Vietnam in negotiations of a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with the European bloc.

    He proposed that Estonia work closely with the EU toward early recognising Vietnam’s full market economy status in order to facilitate Vietnam exports to this lucrative market.

    PM Ansip stressed that his visit demonstrates Estonia’s hope to develop the traditional relationship with Vietnam. He pledged support for cooperation between the EU and Vietnam.

    He also expressed his belief that both countries and especially parliaments will be able to promote multifaceted cooperation through high-level visits.
