Vietnam hailed as symbol of revolution, inspiration for Palestine

VOV.VN - Vietnam always a symbol of revolutionary spirit and national liberation, inspiring the Palestinian people’s struggle, says Issam Makhoul, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Israel and Chairman of the Hadash Front.

A political dialogue was held between a delegation from the Party cell of the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel and leaders of the Communist Party of Israel and Hadash at the headquarters of the Communist Party of Israel and the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) in Haifa on August 14.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Party Cell Secretary and Ambassador Ly Duc Trung. On the Israeli side, the meeting was chaired by Issam Makhoul, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Israel and Chairman of Hadash.

In his remarks, Makhoul underscored the strong solidarity among revolutionary and progressive forces worldwide, expressing admiration for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and its achievements in the Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

Ambassador Ly Duc Trung said he was pleased to attend the dialogue, describing it as the outcome of nearly three years of efforts to connect progressive forces in both countries. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the 1967 borders and in line with United Nations resolutions.

The ambassador emphasized that Vietnam is an active member of the international community, steadfastly pursuing an independent, self-reliant, multilateral and diversified foreign policy, contributing to peace, stability and sustainable development worldwide.

The two sides exchanged views on the Middle East situation, particularly developments in the Gaza Strip, and shared perspectives on efforts for peace, democracy and human rights. Makhoul noted that leftist forces in Israel, comprising both Jewish and Arab members, are persistently promoting anti-war activities and defending the Palestinian people’s right to struggle, despite many challenges.

They consented to step up cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of Israel/Hadash, and to promote exchanges between mass organizations, progressive forces and leftist movements of the two countries in the future.

Participants also viewed a documentary on Vietnam’s revolutionary history and discussed specific cooperation directions, including enhancing connections with progressive movements in the Middle East. Ambassador Ly Duc Trung reviewed Vietnam’s 95-year revolutionary journey since the Communist Party’s founding, the 80 years since President Ho Chi Minh declared the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the pivotal role of Vietnamese diplomacy in landmark events such as the 1954 Geneva Conference and the 1973 Paris Peace Accords. These milestones, he said, laid the groundwork for lasting peace and development, elevating Vietnam’s standing internationally.

Concluding the meeting, Makhoul stated, “Vietnam is not only a friend, but also living proof that oppressed peoples can regain their freedom and independence, and build a developed nation.”

The gathering in Haifa was a meaningful activity that demonstrated international solidarity and contributed to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and progressive forces in Israel and the Middle East.

Later the same day, Ambassador Ly Duc Trung attended a ceremony to admit 15 new members to the Communist Party of Israel and Hadash at the Party’s headquarters. Before the ceremony, he met briefly with Aida Tuma Suliman, a member of the Israeli Knesset. Suliman has been a Communist Party member for nearly 40 years, actively engaged since the 1980s student movement, and has served four terms on the Politburo. During the meeting, Ambassador Trung presented her with the national flag of Vietnam.

The 15 new members, mostly young people, expressed their desire to join the Communist Party and Hadash to fight for peace and equality. Many had been actively working with the Communist Party of Israel for over a year. Ambassador Trung also presented them with Party flags, aiming to inspire the revolutionary spirit among the younger generation.
