Addressing the conference, Party General Secretary-cum-NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed the significance of these elections which come after the success of the 11^th National Party Congress.

This will present a chance for people across Vietnam to build on their governing power and select the right persons with adequate qualifications and moral values for the positions in the National Assembly and People’s Councils, Mr Trong said.

The Party Chief appealed to the sense of responsibility of party committees and governments at various tiers and focused their leadership power on the implementation of the Politburo’s instructions and documents related to the elections.

The Chairman of the country’s parliament stressed the need to raise public awareness of the events’ significance and cultivate people’s patriotism in all social strata with the aim of strengthening the socialist law-governed state of people, for people and by people.

He also called for real democracy, equality, and safety in the whole process of elections, and expressed his hopes that favourable conditions would be created for voters to meet with the candidates.
