Mr Triet expressed his delight at the fine development in Vietnam-Laos relations and pledged to do his best to strengthen the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
He congratulated Laos on its achievements in national construction and defence, as well as the country’s increasing position in the international arena, following the successful organisation of the region’s largest sporting event (SEA Games 25) in 2009.
The Vietnamese leader hoped that Mr Volachit’s visit to Vietnam would help to enhance bilateral ties.
For his part, the Lao Vice President spoke highly of Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in recent years and thanked the Vietnamese government and people for their valuable assistance in the past and at present.
He informed his host about the outcome of his talks with his Vietnamese counterpart President Nguyen Thi Doan and his trip to Vinh Phuc province.
The same day, the Lao official also met with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.
They discussed measures to promote cooperation, especially in economics, trade and investment. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
