The view was shared during talks in Hanoi on August 14 between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem and DPRK Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Yong Il.
M Khiem welcomed Mr Kim’s visit, saying it took place at a time when both countries are preparing for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties. He noted that bilateral cooperative ties, especially in economics, have reached a new level following the official visit to the DPRK by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in October 2007.
The same day, Deputy FM Ho Xuan Son and his DPRK counterpart Kim Yong Il held their second annual Vietnam-DPRK policy exchange.
They discussed the situation in their respective countries, exchanged opinions on bilateral ties and discussed measures to boost relations. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
During his visit, Mr Kim paid tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum, worked with the Vietnam-DPRK friendship association and visited the northern province of Hoa Binh.
