Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has reaffirmed Vietnam’s policy of developing nuclear power for peaceful purposes and a green economy.
  • Vietnam backs the building of nuclear weapon free Southeast Asia
  • Vietnam active in international efforts for nuclear security
  • During a June 26 reception in Hanoi for Denis Flory, Deputy General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Hai said the construction of nuclear power plants in Vietnam is in compliance with international conventions on nuclear safety.

Deputy PM Hai thanked the IAEA for assisting Vietnam to create legal documents, train human resources, and improve the country’s regulatory capacity to develop nuclear energy. He also asked the agency to continue supporting Vietnam in fulfilling its strategic targets.

Denis Flory, who is leading a delegation from the Regulatory Cooperation Forum on a working visit to Vietnam, said his visit is aimed at discussing measures to sharpen the regulatory capacity of Vietnamese authorities to facilitate the development and management of nuclear power in the country.

At the reception, both sides also discussed upgrading the infrastructure for Vietnam’s nuclear power program and establishing an independent Vietnamese nuclear regulatory agency.
