Vietnam, Cuba strive for stronger collaboration at the UN
VOV.VN - Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) on January 11 visited the Cuban mission in New York to extend his New Year greetings and celebrate Cuba's 66th National Liberation Day (January 1, 1959-2025).
During the visit, Ambassador Giang conveyed congratulations to the Cuban delegation and engaged in discussions with its leader, Ambassador Ernesto Guzman, on the longstanding Vietnam-Cuba relationship and their cooperation within the UN framework.
Giang hailed Cuba’s influential role on the international stage and its efforts at the UN, noting his confidence that the Cuban people will continue to overcome the challenges imposed by the unjust embargo while preserving revolutionary achievements and striving for new milestones.
The Vietnamese diplomat also expressed pleasure at the steady strengthening of the special friendship between the two nations. He praised the successful implementation of cooperation agreements, particularly the outcomes of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s state visit to Cuba in September 2024. Giang outlined his hope for continued collaboration, particularly at multilateral forums, with a focus on supporting each other at the UN.
Ambassador Guzmán, for his part, expressed gratitude for Vietnam's unwavering support over the years, citing tangible assistance that helped Cuba recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Oscar last October. He fondly remembered his visit to Vietnam and commended the significant progress Vietnam has made in socio-economic development and international integration.
The two ambassadors consented to further boost cooperation between their missions in New York, promote multilateralism, uphold international law and the UN Charter, and protect the rights and interests of developing countries. They also pledged to work hand in hand on various issues of shared concern within the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the G77.
