Party General Secretary To Lam received President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez on October 1 in Hanoi during the latter’s official visit to Vietnam and co-chairmanship of the second session of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

On behalf of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, To Lam expressed sincere gratitude to Cuba for its continuous solidarity and support for Vietnam in its national liberation and reconstruction efforts, citing the immortal words of Commander Fidel Castro “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give its blood,” which have greatly inspired the Vietnamese people in defending and building the nation.

He underscored Vietnam’s determination to further consolidate the special friendship, traditional solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, stressing that the relationship between the two Parties provides a political foundation and strategic orientation for bilateral cooperation in all fields. He called on the Cuban National Assembly to prioritize support for cooperation and investment in economics and trade, particularly facilitating agricultural projects, renewable energy, biotechnology-pharmaceutical ventures, to serve the development of both countries.

General Secretary To Lam also proposed strengthened exchanges of theory and practical experience, especially as Vietnam prepares for its 14th National Party Congress and Cuba for its 9th National Party Congress in 2026.

President Lazo Hernandez expressed his elation at meeting General Secretary To Lam again during his leadership of the Cuban National Assembly delegation on this official visit. He sincerely thanked Vietnam’s Party, State, National Assembly, and people for their warm reception, and conveyed greetings from Revolutionary Leader General Raul Castro and First Secretary, President Miguel Diaz-Canel to Party General Secretary To Lam and the senior leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

President Lazo Hernandez praised Vietnam’s significant and comprehensive achievements under the clear-sighted leadership of the CPV, expressing his firm belief that with the trust of its people, the Party will continue leading Vietnam to achieve strategic goals in the new era toward building a prosperous, democratic, just, and civilized nation.

President Lazo Hernandez briefed To Lam on the positive outcomes of the talks and the second session of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

He expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support for Cuba during its current difficulties, most recently demonstrated by a widespread fundraising campaign among the Vietnamese people for Cuba.

He was appreciative of Vietnam’s assistance and cooperation in enhancing Cuba’s agricultural production capacity to ensure food security, carrying out renewable energy projects, producing consumer goods in Cuba, biotechnology-pharmaceutical joint ventures, and contributing to Cuba’s economic development through investments in the Mariel Special Development Zone and other localities.

President Lazo Hernandez affirmed that Cuba’s Party, State, and National Assembly are committed to offering optimal conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to do business and invest in Cuba and are confident of attracting more Vietnamese businesses to the Caribbean nation.

The host leader shared Vietnam’s experience and lessons from five decades of defending and building the country, nearly 40 years of renewal and development, as well as strategic orientations and policies for the future.

He highly valued President Lazo Hernandez’s proposals to bolster cooperation between ministries, sectors, localities, and socio-political organizations of both countries, while jointly directing education and communication efforts to deepen mutual understanding among the people and youth about the Vietnam-Cuba special relationship, particularly on the occasion of the centenary of Revolutionary Leader Fidel Castro’s birth (August 13, 1926-August 13, 2026) and the 60th anniversary of General Raul Castro’s visit to Vietnam and meeting President Ho Chi Minh (October 1966-October 2026).
