Vietnam congratulates Indonesia on Independence Day
President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 17 extended congratulations to Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the 72nd anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day (August 17, 1945).
The same day, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh cabled a congratulatory message to her Indonesian counterpart Jusuf Kalla.
On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent his congratulations to Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.
Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic ties at the consular level on December 30, 1955, and upgraded it to the ambassadorial level a decade later. In 2003, both sides signed a comprehensive partnership agreement.
They agreed to elevate bilateral ties to strategic partnership in September 2011, which was realised in June 2013. In October 2013, the two countries’ foreign ministers inked an action plan to implement Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership for 2014-2018.
