A seminar on Vietnam’s coastal area management was held in Hanoi on March 24 by the Vietnam General Department for Sea and Islands in coordination with the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA).

Participants agreed that State management agencies should complete mechanism, law and policy on coastal area management as soon as possible in order to manage coastal areas in Vietnam more effectively.

They said Vietnam should issue policy and provide technical instructions on coastal area management to help provinces and cities across the country manage coastal areas in line with their real situations.

They suggested the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment cooperate with other relevant ministries to build a national strategy and action plan on coastal area management.

Vietnam has a coastline of more than 3,260km and 1 million square kilometres of territorial waters in the East Sea.
