Vietnam, China set to hold first ministerial-level ‘3+3’ strategic dialogue
VOV.VN - China’s foreign, defence and public security ministers will visit Vietnam from March 15 to 17 to attend the first meeting of the Vietnam-China ministerial-level “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism.
According to a statement issued by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 13, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and China’s Foreign Minister, will travel to Vietnam together with Wang Xiaohong, secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Ppublic Ssecurity, and Dong Jun, China’s Minister of National Defence.
The three officials will attend the inaugural meeting of the strategic dialogue mechanism involving the foreign, defence and public security ministers of the two countries.
During the visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will also co-chair the 17th meeting of the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.
Speaking to the media on March 13, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China and Vietnam are friendly socialist neighbours that are jointly building a community with a shared future of strategic significance.
He said that under the direct guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and countries, the two sides have established the “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism covering diplomacy, national defence and public security.
According to Guo, this is the first “3+3” mechanism either country has established globally, reflecting the strategic nature and importance of relations between the two parties and states.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation has improved overall coordination and played a key role in promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
Guo said that after the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV) held in January, CPC General Secretary and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call with To Lam, CPV General Secretary.
During the conversation, the two sides agreed to work toward the successful holding of the first ministerial meeting under the “3+3” mechanism as well as the 17th meeting of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.
In the context of a complex and rapidly changing international environment, China and Vietnam should step up strategic communication and deepen strategic coordination, Guo said.
He added that such efforts would help build the community with a shared future, support the modernisation process of both countries and enable them to respond to shared challenges.
The spokesperson said China stands ready to work with Vietnam, under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and countries, to combine high-quality development with high-level security, while ensuring the successful holding of key cooperation mechanisms and further deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
He said these efforts would bring practical benefits to the people of both countries and contribute to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region.
