The Vietnam-China friendship and cooperation in various fields have grown and flourished over the past year, especially since top leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung spoke with China’s former State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan during a meeting in Hanoi on February 23.

2010 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China, which contributed to strengthening the friendship, and trust and understanding between the two countries, said Mr Dung.

PM Dung highlighted the great potential for bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and China, particularly in economics and underlined the need to intensify trade promotion activities to increase two-way trade turnover to more impressive figures.

He expressed his hope both sides will continue close cooperation to deal with different views on the East Sea issue.

Mr. Tang said he is impressed with Vietnam’s rapid development under the Communist Party of Vietnam’s leadership which, he said, has raised the country’s role and status in the international arena.

Vietnam and China should conduct more exchange visits at all levels to further enhance the friendship, mutual understanding and investment between Vietnam and China, Mr. Tang said.
