First session of the Vietnam-China Committee for Land Border Demarcation and Border Marker Planting was held in Beijing from March 14-18.

At the session, both reviewed their activities after the completion of the Land Border Demarcation and Landmark planting along their common borderline. They fulfilled tasks as scheduled to put documents on Vietnam-China Land Border into practice.

In addition, both sides discussed strategies for the implementation of border management in the future and agreed on important issues on building a collaborative approach to border gate management, speeding up the signing of an agreement on free travel in the Beilun river area and a cooperative agreement on tapping into tourism potential in the Ban Gioc waterfall area.

Both countries also strengthened strict co-ordination in maintaining security at border areas, preventing the illegal immigration, women and children trafficking and drug smuggling and trans-national crimes.

Moreover, both nations agreed on educating people at border areas to respect the common borderline, strengthening the exchange of information and cooperation in environmental protection and using water resources.

The session also contributed to developing the Vietnam-China Land Border into a borderline for peace, friendship, cooperation and development. Both sides agreed to organise the second session of the Committee in the fourth quarter of this year.
