Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan discussed educational cooperation with Canada’s newly accredited ambassador to Vietnam Deanna Horton in Hanoi on October 13.

Mr Nhan praised Canada’s schools and expressed his hope that Canada will continue to help Vietnam train high-quality human resources through its undergraduate and graduate programmes.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Canadian ambassador talked about a project to improve technical and vocational training in Vietnamese community colleges. Mr Nhan said this is an important project that helps improve Vietnamese people’s living standards by giving them access to better jobs. He pointed out that the project gives priority to gender and ethnic issues with the aim of reducing labour imbalance between rural and urban areas, and between industry and agriculture.

During the meeting, Mr Nhan informed Ms Horton of a visit to Canada in November by a high-level delegation of the Vietnamese government.

For her part, Ms Horton praised Vietnam’s achievements in education and vocational training and promised that Canada will continue to assist Vietnam in many fields.
