Vietnam calls for ceasefire, dialogue to resolve conflicts

VOV.VN - The nation calls on all concerned parties to ease tension, apply a ceasefire, and reopening a dialogue in a bid seek long-term solutions aimed at resolving differences while taking into account the legitimate rights and interests of relevant parties.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN, made the statement on April 7 at the 11th emergency special session of the UN General Assembly on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

As part of his speech, the Vietnamese diplomat reaffirmed the consistent Vietnamese stance on the settlement of international disputes through peaceful measures in line with the UN Charter and international law.

This is in addition to the principle of respecting states’ independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, not interfering into countries’ internal affairs, and not using force in international relations.

Ambassador Giang underscored the country’s concern about the impact of the war in Ukraine on civilians and information relating to casualties among civilians over recent days.

Vietnam opposes all actions which involve attacking civilians and violations of humanitarian and human rights laws, he said, while emphasizing the need to verify recent information in a transparent, open, and objective manner with the co-operation of all relevant sides.

The Vietnamese representative also reiterated the country’s view that all discussions and decisions taken by international agencies and organizations must be based on verified and transparent information, with the co-operation of stakeholders and consultation with countries.

The UN and the wider international community should continue to encourage and create favourable conditions to hold dialogues and diplomatic negotiations among relevant parties as they seek peaceful and comprehensive solutions, Giang said.
