Panama's National Assembly Chairman Elias A. Castillo has underscored the need to establish cooperative relations with the Vietnam National Assembly so as to boost the growing ties between the two countries.

While receiving Nguyen Ngoc Tran, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee in Panama recently, Mr Castillo expressed his admiration of the Vietnamese people’s past struggle for national liberation and the achievements of the current Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

Mr Tran led the Vietnamese delegation on a five-day tour of Panama and Chile, beginning on March 11.

The Vietnamese delegation had working sessions with Panama's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The delegation visited the Panama Canal and was introduced to a plan to expand the canal linking the Pacific to Atlantic Oceans.

While in Chile, Mr Tran met with the President of the Chilean Deputies Chamber and the Chairman of the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee.

They discussed measures to boost the multifaceted cooperation between the two legislative bodies as well as the two people. They held that the two countries should boost trade exchanges to match their potential by speeding up the implementation of signed agreements.
