Vietnam, Benin expect stronger partnership

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Morocco and Benin Dang Thi Thu Ha has pledged her best efforts to ramp up traditional friendship ties between the nation and Benin for the wider interest of citizens from both nations.

At a recent ceremony held to present her credentials to Beninese Foreign Minister Aurélien Agbenonci, the Vietnamese diplomat offered some proposals aimed at enhancing bilateral ties across a multitude of fields, especially politics, economics, and trade, as well as co-operation at multilateral forums.

In response, Minister Agbenonci praised the sound ties between both sides and showed admiration for the socio-economic achievements recorded by the country over recent years.

He went on to voice his hope of seeing the two nations take specific steps to further beef up their friendship and co-operation, especially as both sides are in the process of preparing for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations ahead in 2023.

Following the presentation Ambassador Ha paid courtesy calls to Beninese Minister of Agriculture Gaston Cossi Dossouhoui and Minister of Industry and Trade Alimatou Shadiya Assouman. She also held a meeting with leaders of the Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and leaders of the Council of Owners, as well as a number of officials at Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides used the platform to discuss specific measures in terms of bilateral relations, whilst also agreeing to support each other at multilateral forums. They also sought measures in which to bolster the partnership in promising areas such as agriculture, aquaculture, trade, investment, and cashew processing.

Ambassador Ha affirmed that the nation is more than willing to provide technical support, share experience, and co-operate with Benin in agriculture, as well as areas which the country boasts strengths in. The two sides therefore agreed to push for the establishment of sub-committees for co-operation through both sides’ competent agencies in specific areas, along with ensuring the increase of delegation exchanges and the appointment of honourary consuls in each country. Initially, the two sides will organise online meetings to connect firms, they said.

As part of the occasion, Ambassador Ha also met with the Vietnamese community in the West African country.
