Vietnam, Bangladesh boost co-operation to contribute to UNHRC

VOV.VN - The nation and Bangladesh will work closely to contribute more to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Shahriar Alam affirmed on October 11 after both countries were elected to the council.

In a recent media interview, the Bangladeshi official congratulated the Vietnamese Government and people on their success, saying the result indicates Vietnamese people’s aspirations.

Both sides enjoy a “fantastic” bilateral relationship, he said, adding that in a multilateral setting, the two nations had served as UNHRC members.

They have already worked closely in order to finalise a resolution relating to climate change and migration, he continued.

According to details given by the official, amid a changing global order challenges will be even greater compared to the tenure when both countries were UNHRC members in the 2014 to 2016 period.

Given this, he put forward a suggestion that the two sides adapt themselves quickly, saying that all countries, not just Vietnam and Bangladesh, should strive to understand each other better.

Bangladeshi Minister Alam also noted that human rights remains a vast topic which is integrally linked with further economic development.

Vietnam and Bangladesh share similarities in terms of culture, with both having experienced bloody wars to gain liberation, he said, suggesting the two countries work to promote peace and make this the centre of the decision making process.
