Vietnam strongly supports the early full deployment of the UN Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) in accordance with Resolution 1861, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

Vietnam’s Chief of Representative to the UNSC, Ambassador Le Luong Minh called on MINURCAT to focus on issues such as protecting civilians, training the Chad’s armed forces and facilitating inter-community dialogue at a UNSC meeting in New York on April 24.

He also voiced concern about the persistent lack of security marked by armed attacks against civilians and humanitarian workers in eastern Chad.

“The rising tension in Chad-Sudan relations and the refusal by the rebel groups in both countries to engage in dialogue also add to our concern,” Mr Minh said, urging all parties involved to renounce violence and engage in the political dialogue.
