Vietnam backs Israel – Hamas ceasefire

VOV.VN - The nation welcomes the start of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and hopes that it can be carried out and mantainied, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

The deal was struck during the UN General Assembly’s urgent meeting which took place on May 20 in order to discuss the Palestinian situation.
As part of his remarks, Ambassador Quy expressed his deep concern relating to tension and violence between both Israeli and Palestinian people which has left hundreds of civilians dead and has destroyed key infrastructure in both nations.
Vietnam therefore condemns all wild attacks which target civilians, especially children, he said.
He went on to call on all parties to immediately halt escalating violence and refrain from actions that could potential further complicate the situation.

The local diplomat reiterated a call for Israel to end their excessive use of force and unilateral actions, including those taking place in settlements located in occupied Palestinian territories, the deportation of Palestinians, and the destruction of their houses.

The ambassador also hailed the efforts of the international community, regional countries, UN Secretary General, UN Security Council and its member states to ease tension.

Expressing his concern over serious humanitarian situation in Palestine, Quy also applauded the efforts of humanitarian relief agencies in the field.

The Vietnamese diplomat reaffirmed Vietnam’s stance that the only sustainable path to peace issue in the Middle East is a two-State solution that envisions an independent State of Palestine living in peace with the State of Israel within internationally recognised borders on the basis of the pre-1967 border lines and negotiation agreement, in line with international law, the United Nations Charter and the UN’s relevant resolutions.
