Vietnam and Australia have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations for mutual benefit and for peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.

The agreement was reached during talks between the Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister, Doan Xuan Hung, and the Australian Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Gillian Bird, in Hanoi on May 14.

They shared the view that cooperation between Vietnam and Australian has developed well in many fields, such as politics, economics, trade and investment, development assistance, education and training, tourism, security and national defence.

They also exchanged views on multilateral issues of mutual concern, including working within the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

During her visit on May 13-14, Gillian Bird paid a courtesy visit to Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
