A Vietnamese delegation led by Pham Van Mai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, attended the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY VI), which was held in Bangkok, Thailand on June 25-26.

The event aimed to encourage young people to participate in the integration process, and in the building of the ASEAN community through 2015.

Addressing the meeting, ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Soeung Rathchavy emphasised the important role of youth - future leaders who are also the biggest asset in the region. She said that ASEAN is implementing priority projects to help young people fully tap their potential in economic, political, social and technological development so as to promote prosperity and peace in the region.

For his part, Mr Mai also shared Ms Soeung’s view, affirming that the future of ASEAN will be in the hand of young people who will play an important role in realising the goal of a dynamic and prosperous community.

Regarding the establishment of an ASEAN fund, Mr Mai said that fund-raising regulations will be discussed at the ASEAN Summit to be held in Vietnam by 2010 and at the next ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth.
