Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hua Duc Nhi joined other delegates from 130 countries and 40 international organisations at the 18th meeting of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)’s Committee on Forestry held in Rome, Italy, from March 13-16.
The Vietnamese delegation was authorised by Asian countries to deliver a report on sustainable forest development and management.
Participants discussed global forest development trends in 2007, forest and energy, forest protection, forest role in local economic development, sustainable forest development and FAO plan of action on forestry.
Mr Nhi had talks with Lennart Bage, president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and David Harcharik, FAO general director, on the sidelines of the meeting to boost cooperation between Vietnam and the two organisations.
IFAD and FAO leaders expressed their willingness to further boost cooperation with Vietnam in agriculture, forestry and fisheries and wanted Vietnam to be their important partner in Southeast Asia.
