Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh joined his counterparts from other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at their 19th meeting in Bali, Indonesia, on November 15.

They examined preparations for the 19th ASEAN Leaders’ Summit and related meetings to be held in the island nation this month.

High on the agenda were discussions related to the building of the ASEAN Community in 2015 based on three pillars (the ASEAN Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community), the ASEAN community within the global community, as well as many other regional and international issues of common concern.

The FMs discussed ways to speed up negotiations of a Southeast Asian Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (SEANWFZ) and implement the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia.

They also touched upon issues related to the organisation of the ASEAN maritime forum, maritime cooperation and implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

The ASEAN connectivity programme, the single ASEAN visa policy and relations between ASEAN and its dialogue partners were also discussed at the meeting.
