A senior military delegation led by Vietnamese Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh has attended the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 1-5.

The ADMM was focused on the procedures, structure and elements of an open meeting between the ASEAN Defence Ministers and dialogue countries outside ASEAN.

At the meeting, Vietnam proposed a structure comprising the ten ASEAN members and eight dialogue partners namely China, India, Russia, the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

General Phung Quang Thanh said that if this agenda is implemented in 2010, Vietnam will officially host the fourth ADMM in Hanoi to discuss specific moves to turn Southeast Asia into a region of peace and stability, with no conflicts.

He added that by hosting the fourth ADMM, Vietnam will have an excellent opportunity to highlight its traditional culture as well as the capabilities of its armed forces.
